Salcom

Salcom is a privately owned company employing nineteen staff. Since its inception in 1984 it has become a major supplier of quality signalling and message handling systems to the New Zealand telecommunications industry.

Salcom has the resources to present clients with a complete solution; a skilled team of digital and telecommunication engineers, software writers, a documentation section, a manufacturing plant and sales engineering. The Salcom team is supported by a high degree of computerization which incorporates CAD (both in mechanical and electrical design), documentation, and production and test facilities.

The company is small and specialized and is therefore able to concentrate on flexibility and efficiency, in turn leading to short turnaround times for products and system applications and integration.

Salcom has expertise in RF (radio frequency) and microprocessor based design. Signalling products it designed have been provided for NZ Railways Corporation for nation-wide train control, NZ Police vehicle transceivers, Auckland and Wellington Public Transport (bus) Authorities, NZ Fire Service, regional ambulance services and some taxi and courier companies. Automatic Vehicle Location technology has been provided by SALCOM to some of the Ambulance Service Fleets in the South Island of New Zealand and to some fleets in the Taxi Industry.

A typical system uses existing voice traffic transceivers as the transmission medium and at the base a computer interfaces to a transceiver to send, receive and store electronic messages both to and from the mobiles.

In recent years Salcom has provided specialized low level telecontrol and remote monitoring systems which include cost effective low power, high performance telecontrol and POCSAG paging transmitters and receivers.
