Why Interceptors may be a better option for your boat’s trim control than traditional trim tabs
Traditional plate style trim tabs can still be found on many popular motorboat brands, but there has been a growing popularity in the installation of bladed interceptors in recent years.
Interceptor systems, such as Zipwake, are straightforward to install, highly efficient and can significantly improve the performance and comfort onboard when underway.
What are the key advantages of Interceptors over Trim Tabs?
Efficient lift and quick to deploy
Mounted to the lowest part of the transom, and actuating only 30mm (in the case of Zipwake Series S interceptors) interceptors are extremely efficient in creating lift under the hull which assists with faster planing and when operated independently, levelling of the boat side to side which improves performance and comfort. All of this is done automatically by the Zipwake system so no need to be constantly adjusting controls or buttons.
Zipwake interceptors are fast to actuate and depending on which series of Zipwake they could be up to 20 times faster than traditional trim tabs. The other advantage of interceptors is their non-linear deployment vs lift characteristic. As you can see in the chart (right) interceptor blades only need to be deployed a small amount for a greater lift effect than trim tabs at same deployment.
This all equates to interceptors being a much more efficient, faster and better way to optimize performance of a boat because only small blade movements are usually required to achieve the desired effect and they happen in a fraction of a second.

Installation
Due to their modular design, interceptors are a great option for sport fishing boats, motor boats as well as some commercial vessels up to 100’.

For wider hulls, additional interceptors can be added for optimal coverage.
